You can defrag your Windows XP to make it running faster. but there’s not the only way to increase your Windows XP Performance..

here is the way :

1. you can decrease your booting time by defragmenting. you better using ultra-133 hardisk or SATA hardisk buffer 8MB.
2. if your RAM PC has lower than 512 MB. you should increase the capacity.
3. Make sure the file system that you use for WIndows XP is NTFS. you can check it :
   a. open Windows Explorer
   b. right click on Drive C:
   c. click properties

   if you use FAT32, you can change it, here is the instruction :

   • back up your data
   • click Start -> Run -> CMD
   • in the command line, type this :  CONVERT C: /FS:NTFS

   note : Don’t Interupt when you were Conversing, and make sure your Hardisk is cleaned from virus

4. deactivate File Indexing..Here is the instruction :
   a. Open Windows Explorer
   b. right click on Drive C:
   c. click properties
   d. uncheck “Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching.”
   e. click Apply, Show : apply changes to “C: subfolders and files”
   f. Click OK.
5. Update VGA Driver and Chipset Motherboard, include Update BIOS and configuration.
6. Make Prefetch Folder empty every 3 month or more.
   Location of this folder is : C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch\
7. you have to Disk Cleanup everymonth.
   a. Open Windows Explorer
   b. right click on Drive C:
   c. click properties
   d. Click Disk Clean up Button and Delete all Temporary Files.
8. in Device Manager, Double click on IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers device. and make sure DMA is Enabled for each drive that connected to Primary Controller and Secondary Controller..here is the way :
   a. Double Click on Primary IDE Channel. and then click tab Advance Setting.
   b. Make sure Transfer Mode is “DMA if Available” for each Device 0 and Device 1.
   c. Do it the same on Secondary IDE Channel
9. Upgrade your wire
   make sure you use 80-wire Ultra-133 for all device IDE and use connector that suit with socket Master/Slave/Motherboard.
   if the device just one.then use the end connector from wire not in the middle.
10. Remove all Spyware from Computer.
    use Freeware like Adaware or SpyBot Search & Destroy. after you install it, make sure you do update your Spyware Destroyer.
11. Remove all Programs or item that you don’t need to run when start up Windows. you can check it with MSCONFIG.
    a. Click Start -> Run -> type : MS CONFIG -> OK
    b. click tab start up -> and then uncheck the program that you don’t need it

12. Remove all Program that you don’t need from Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.
13. Turn off all or several animation that you don’t need it and Disabled Active Desktop. The way :
    a. click System Icon in Control Panel
    b. click tab Advance
    c. Click Setting Button on Performance
    d. Uncheck the option that you don’t need it or you can click radio button : Adjust for best performance.
14. if you understand how to edit Registry windows XP, do it. or you can use tweak software, you can download it in internet.
15. visit website Microsoft Windows Regularly and download all updater that labeled Critical.
16. always update your anti virus. you just need one anti virus in your computer. don’t use more than one Anti virus at the same time.
17. make sure you install font that you really really need it. more and more font you have..your Windows Performance is getting down.
18. Check your RAM System.I recommend you to use MemTest86. this software will test your RAM.there are 10 testing, if that program found an error on your computer, turn off your computer and change your RAM with another.
19. if  you have CD/DVD Recorder/ Writer. found Firmware Updater from Producer..
20. Disabled Service that not important.

21. if you have problem when showing file and slow down your operating system..do it this things:
    a. Open My Computer
    b. click Tools
    c. Click Folder Option
    d. click tab View.
    e. Scroll down to “Launch folder windows in a separate process”, activate this option and restart it.
22. at least once a year, you have to clean inside your computer from dusts. and check a van..
